8 Steps to a Successful Campaign

Have a Heart for CANFAR

Step One | Get informed and get inspired!

  • Think about what inspires you and why you'd like to run a Have a Heart for CANFAR campaign.

Step Two | Organize a committee

  • Get a group of enthusiastic students together to run the campaign.
  • Try to have students from every grade on your committee to ensure that the committee will continue after senior students graduate.

Step Three | Brainstorm events you'd like to run as part of your campaign

  • What other fundraising activities can you think of to include in your campaign? Be creative, the opportunities are endless!

Step Four | Plan your campaign

  • What activities will you run? When will your activities happen? Where will your events take place? Map out a timeline and delegate committee members to each event or task.

Step Five | Get your materials together

  • Package your Heart-o-grams.  What other materials will you need for your campaign?

Step Six | Advertise your campaign

  • Tell your school and community about your campaign, and maybe even get some media attention!
    - Make school and class announcements and put posters up in the hallways.
    - Contact CANFAR if you would like help with media relations.

Step Seven | Run your Have a Heart for CANFAR campaign

  • Recruit volunteers to help at your events
  • At your events, let everyone know about the cause you’re raising money for
  • Keep track of all money raised

Step Eight | Wrap up your campaign and send your follow-up package to CANFAR

  • Make sure to thank everyone who was involved in the campaign.
  • Send CANFAR a follow-up package:
    - Include money raised. The donation cans can be opened using a can opener.
    - Make the cheque out to CANFAR, with Have a Heart for CANFAR in the memo. If your school board is writing the cheque, include a note with your school’s name.
    - Send it to CANFAR in the pre-paid envelope included in your package. Find our mailing address here.
