The CANFAR Young Professional Council (YPC) is a community-based volunteer organization comprised of young professionals dedicated to assisting CANFAR in its mission to end AIDS through research.
The YPC was created in March 2010 to bridge the age gap between CANFAR’s youth-based programs, and an older donor base. Its mandate is simple – to spread awareness about HIV and AIDS to a younger generation. Currently, 15 young professionals sit on the council, developing and managing the YPC’s strategic direction. More than 50 volunteers hold positions across the 5 sub-committees.
Globally, 34 million people are living with HIV, including 65,000 Canadians. The number of people living with HIV has increased by 20% since 2000. Sadly, more than half of Grade 9 students nationally wrongly believe there is a cure or vaccine for AIDS.
By pulling together the best, brightest and most dedicated peopled from key industries, and armed with new technologies and tactics, the YPC aims to reverse these statistics by reaching out to a new generation of young people in a new era of HIV and AIDS.
