In the past, CANFAR presented ONE outstanding school with the annual ‘Heart Award’, but because of the overwhelming number of fantastic schools who have enthusiastically participated in the Have a Heart for CANFAR program, we have increased the number of awards to SIX schools this year.
This year, the Regional Red Ribbon Awards will be presented to the top high schools from each region in Canada (Western Canada, the Prairies, the Territories, Ontario, Quebec & the Maritimes) that demonstrate outstanding dedication and community spirit while raising research funds and HIV & AIDS awareness amongst their peers. Get your school into the spirit of Have a Heart for CANFAR this year and tell us all about the great things you are doing to help raise awareness and funds through your campaign!
Be the first school in your region to win the Red Ribbon Award! There are many prizes to be won for you and your school! Don’t forget to keep the Have a Heart team updated by sending us pictures and stories for your chance to win!

The 2011 Heart Award was presented to Elia Middle School of North York, Ontario, for their outstanding participation in the Have a Heart for CANFAR program. Elia has participated in the campaign since 2003 and in the last few years special education teacher Kathy Karadimas and her students took over organizing the Have-a-Heart campaign to help educate students about HIV and AIDS prevention. Every morning in the month of February, Kathy's students make announcements encouraging everyone to buy heart-o-grams and share a fact about HIV and AIDS. Then during the lunch hour, Kathy and her students set up a table in the school’s cafeteria and sell heart-o-grams. Afterwards, they go from class to class delivering each personalized heart-o-gram to its recipient. Kathy and Elia Middle School have developed an interactive, innovative, and truly inspiring campaign for CANFAR.
